Przedstawiony artykuł stawia sobie dwa zasadnicze cele – pierwszy to próba przedstawienia podejścia systemowego w stosunkach międzynarodowych, które to podejście wydaje się niedoceniane i niewystarczająco wykorzystywane w polskiej nauce. Z jednej strony artykuł omawia możliwości zastosowania tego podejścia w nauce, z drugiej zaś stara się przedstawić narzędzie konieczne dla stosunkowo wszechstronnej analizy systemu, w tym poziomów tej analizy, czy zmiennych systemowych, a wreszcie struktury systemu. W drugiej części artykułu przedstawione są modele systemów, a także koncepcja biegunowości w systemach międzynarodowych. Koncepcja ta jest punktem wyjścia do analizy przykładowych modeli systemu międzynarodowego w regionie Azji i Pacyfiku. Zdając sobie sprawę z trudności i niebezpieczeństw takich prognoz, w artykule podjęto też próbę wskazania wersji najbardziej prawdopodobnych, których realność zostanie zweryfikowana przez rozwój wydarzeń w najbliższych latach i dekadach. W części tej przedstawiono koncepcję jednobiegunową – z dominującym aktorem, którym mogą być Stany Zjednoczone lub, w pewnej perspektywie czasowej i terytorialnej, Chińska Republika Ludowa, dwubiegunową – gdzie rozważana jest rola USA i ChRL, trójbiegunową z kilkoma możliwymi wariantami, wreszcie zaś, najbardziej w najbliższym czasie prawdopodobną, koncepcję wielobiegunową (uwzględniającą udział zarówno aktorów narodowych, jak i międzynarodowych).

The systemic approach is one of the most widespread attitudes within international relations. It is a relatively broad and multilayer approach, having a rich literature in international relations theory. The idea of the international system has, however, provoked a lot of controversies among IR theorists. These controversies refer both to the analysis of the international system, and its conceptualization. Moreover, the most impotrant theoretical and methodological debates in the second half of the twentieth century focused on this aspect of international relations. This article aims at describing a systemic approach in an international relations theory, as it seems to be underestimated and insufficiently applied in Polish IR studies. On the one hand, this paper delineates the possibilities of applying this approach in the humanities, focusing on international relations studies. On the other, it aims to present a tool for relatively complex system analysis, including levels of analysis, system variables, as well as system structure. The second part of this article focuses on models of international systems, as well as the concept of polarity in international systems. The aforementioned concept is a starting point for the study of the hypothetical models of the international system in the Asia-Pacific region. Having in mind the difficulties and dangers of such prognoses, we're attempting to point to the most likely possibilities. Verification of these prognoses will be possible in the following years and decades, as the development in the region is the crucial factor for the future shape of the Asia-Pacific regional system. We're presenting a unipolar model, with the United States as the hegemonic power of the system, but with the possibility of having the People's Republic of China in this position, although in a reasonable time and territorial perspective (initially the East Asian system). The article also presents a bipolar system, where the most likely poles are the U.S. and the PRC, and a tripolar one, with couple of possible alternatives. Finally, we're focusing on the most likely in the short term, a multilateral system (which is a mixed model with both national and international actors).
