Celem niniejszej pracy była analiza wybranych kulturowych aspektów powieści J. D. Salingera Buszujący w zbożu w dwóch polskich tłumaczeniach: Marii Skibniewskiej i Magdaleny Słysz. Aspekty te zanalizowano pod względem udomowienia (domestication) i egzotyzacji (foreignisation) oraz przy wskazaniu odpowiednich procedur tłumaczeniowych mających zastosowanie w obu przekładach. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów, które przedstawiają się następująco: Pierwszy z nich służy jako wprowadzenie do powieści oraz zapoznanie z autorem. W części tej wyróżniono również najważniejsze interpretacje utworu oraz przedstawiono go w kontekście historycznym i społecznym. Rozdział drugi został poświęcony pojęciom udomowienia i egzotyzacji oraz istotnym procedurom tłumaczeniowym takich teoretyków jak Vinay, Darbelnet czy Aixela. Ostatni rozdział pracy miał na celu przeprowadzenie analizy wybranych fragmentów utworu oraz dokonania ich oceny pod względem udomowienia i egzotyzacji. Szczególny nacisk położono na język powieści, w tym głównego bohatera, oraz elementy kulturowe, które mogły stanowić wyzwanie dla tłumaczek.

The present thesis has been written to present and analyze selected cultural aspects of J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye in two Polish translations by Maria Skibniewska and Magdalena Słysz. These aspects were appraised in terms of the spectrum of domestication and foreignisation, together with determining the applicable procedures. As far as the structure of the thesis is concerned, it is divided into three chapters. In the first one, I commenced with providing an introduction to the novel, along with identifying most significant themes and presenting the historical and cultural background of Salinger’s work. The second chapter was devoted to the presentation of the concepts of domestication and foreignisation as well as to identifying the most evident procedures that could find application in the Polish translations of the book, such as Vinay’s and Darbelnet’s or Aixela’s. Ultimately, there is the third chapter, in which the analysis of the aspects in question is carried out. Here, the emphasis was put on the language used in the novel as well as on several categories of culture-specific items detectable in the book.
