„Ciała z papieru. Systematyka i analiza fotografii pośmiertnej” to praca z pogranicza antropologii śmierci i antropologii wizualnej. Tekst traktuje o fotografiach pośmiertnych, jest analizą i próbą systematyki polskich XX-wiecznych zdjęć trumiennych, konsekwentnie zanikającej tradycji pośmiertnego wizerunku. Cztery kanony fotograficznego obrazowania zwłok wyróżnione w drodze formalnej i funkcjonalnej analizy, stanowią konstrukcyjną oś tekstu, składającego się z prezentacji stanowisk teoretycznych i czterech rozdziałów dotyczących poszczególnych kanonów: portretów ciała, portretów twarzy, chłopskich (grupowych) portretów pośmiertnych i kadrów z pożegnania. Każdy rozdział analityczny składa się z charakterystyki kanonu i szczegółowej analizy kilku wybranych zdjęć. Obrazy analizowane są za pomocą szeregu stanowisk teoretycznych dotyczących fotografii autorstwa m.in. Rolanda Barthesa, Hansa Belitnga, Eduardo Pontremoliego, André Rouillégo, André Bazina; oraz w oparciu o liczne teorie z zakresu antropologii śmierci, autorstwa m.in. Stanisława Rośka, Louisa-Vincenta Thomasa, Philippe Ariésa.

‘Paper Bodies. Systematics and analysis of post-mortem photography’ is a thesis rooted in two anthropological subdisciplines: visual studies and the anthropology of death. The thesis is an attempt to systematize and analyze polish 20th century post-mortem photography – a tradition of depicting which is constantly vanishing. The structure of the text is a consequence of four canons of post-mortem photography distinguished in a process of analysis. After presentation of a few theoretical proposals, there are four separate chapters dealing with four separate canons such as body portraits, face portraits, peasant (group) post-mortem portraits and stills from mourning. Each analytical chapter consists of the description and characteristic of the canon, and a detailed analysis of the pictures. The photos are considered with the use of several theoretical proposals concerning both death (e.g. Stanisław Rosiek, Louis-Vincent Thomas, Philippe Ariés) and photography (e.g. Roland Barthes, Hans Belting, Eduardo Pontremoli, André Rouillé, André Bazin).
