The aim of this study was to show how new media has changed the reception of media events. The research work involved the analysis of the memes posted on the portal Kwejk that were comments to media events. The work was divided into three chapters. The first one presents a theory of media events, their characteristics and distribution. It also describes how media events are reported on the Internet. The second chapter is devoted to internet memes, which are the carriers of content on the portals of entertainment, such as analyzed in this work Kwejk. Without knowledge of how they are built, what theirs functions are and how to interpret the content of memes, it would not be possible to present the analysis in the last chapter of this work. Memes were analyzed for the three media events: UEFA European Football Championship, Felix Baumgartner's jump from the stratosphere and the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Analysis of memes posted on the website Kwejk showed that the impact of new media on the reception of media events is important and is mainly based on the possibility of commenting on the events by the users. Comments of internet users are often vulgar and take away an aura of sanctity and uniqueness from media events. Internet users covarage do not replace television coverage, but enrich them. |
