Turkish customs and culture in anecdotes about Nasreddin Hodja

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza anegdot na temat Nasreddina Hodży pod kątem społeczno-kulturowym. Opowieści o tym legendarnym bohaterze, znane społeczeństwu tureckiemu od wieków, zajmują bardzo ważne miejsce w tureckiej literaturze i kulturze ludowej. W rozdziale pierwszym została przedstawiona sylwetka Nasreddina Hodży, badania naukowe o jego postaci oraz prawdopodobna biografia. Przedstawione w rozdziale drugim oraz trzecim anegdoty zostały przetłumaczone z języka tureckiego na polski oraz sklasyfikowane i uporządkowane według odpowiednich kategorii, a następnie omówione wraz z komentarzem. Poddane analizie zostały takie tematy jak: życie rodzinne; religia, rytuały i poglądy religijne; życie codzienne; rola i postrzeganie zwierząt; postać historyczna Tamerlana; charakter Nasreddina Hodży. Praca stanowi bazę najczęściej powtarzających się podstawowych tematów w anegdotach o Nasreddinie Hodży i tworzy pogłębione spektrum wiedzy dotyczące życia społeczeństwa tureckiego, jego obyczajów i kultury.

The purpose of the following thesis is the analysis of anecdotes about Nasreddin Hodja in terms of socio-cultural issues. Tales about this legendary hero have been known by the Turkish society since centuries and still have an influence on the Turkish literature and folk culture. The first chapter presents the Nasreddin Hodja character, research about him and his probable biography. Anecdotes introduced in the second and third chapter have been translated from Turskish to Polish, classified and ordered according to the proper category and then discussed together with comments. The following topics have been analysed: family life; religion, rituals and religion beliefs, everyday life; the role and perception of animals; historical figure of Tamerlane and personality of Nasreddin Hodja. The present master’s thesis is the base of mostly recurring basic topics in anecdotes about Nasreddin Hodja and creates a thorough knowledge concerning the life of Turkish society, its customs and culture.
