W mojej pracy magisterskiej o roli Trójkąta Weimarskiego w rozszerzonej Unii Europejskiej oceniam polsko-niemiecko-francuską współpracę z perspektywy teorii racjonalizmu oraz konstruktywizmu społecznego. Najpierw objaśniam fazę przed członkostwem Polski w Unii Europejskiej i przedstawiam różnorodność zakresów aktywności oraz indywidualnych aktorów Trójkąta Weimarskiego. Aby określić aktualną rolę grupy, koncentruję się na trzech sektorach, które zdefiniowałam jako te o największym potencjale dla kszałtowania polityk UE: polityce zagranicznej, obronie oraz bezpieczeństwie i energii. Ponadto omawiam dwa intrumenty Trójkąta Weimarskiego: model grupy w grupie czyli instrument odnoszący się do współpracy z innymi państwami Unii Europejskiej oraz współpracy Weimar Plus – czyli tej z państwami spoza UE. Co więcej, analizuję dwustronne stosunki ekonomiczne, polityczno-dyplomatyczne oraz kontakty społeczeństw obywatelskich, które nadal pozostają nierówne. Zajmuję się także ograniczeniami współpracy trójstronnej, które są nierówne kontaktom na osi dwustronnej i zależne od tzw. miękkich faktorów jak choćby język. Jednak pomimo różnic w relacjach dwustronnych między tymi trzema krajami, argumentuję na rzecz potencjału dla przyszłej współpracy, przy konieczności rozróżnienia współpracy na wyższym poziomie politycznym i niższym poziomie politycznym. Na wyższym poziomie, luźna struktura jest wartością dodaną, ponieważ oferuje elastyczność potrzebną w zarządzaniu kryzysami. Na niższym poziomie politycznym bardziej ustruktyryzowana współpraca mogłaby stać się fundamentem efektywniejszej współpracy trójstronnej. W obu przypadkach kluczowym elementem dla sukcesu Trójkąta Weimarskiego jest oddanie się i zaangażowanie osobiste aktorów indywidualnych.

In my thesis on the Weimar Triangle in the European Union, I assess Franco-Polish-German cooperation through the lens of two diverging theoretical approaches: rationalism and social constructivism. I firstly explain the period prior to Poland's membership in the EU and present the various sectors of activity and the individual actors of the Weimar Triangle. In order to determine the current role of the Weimar Triangle cooperation, I focus on foreign policy, security and defence, and energy, those fields where I determine the greatest potential for the Weimar Triangle to shape EU policies. I also discuss two instruments: the group-within-the-group model referring to cooperation with other EU member states and the Weimar Plus cooperation with third party, non-EU member states. I further analyse the Franco-German, Franco-Polish and Polish-German bilateral economic relations, political-diplomatic and civil societal contacts that remain unequal. Finally, I assess the limiting factors for trilateral cooperation within the Weimar Triangle, which are primarily the inequality of the respective bilateral axis, but also include softer components such as language diversity. Despite the existing discrepancies in the bilateral relation and the fact that the Weimar Triangle is not institutionalised, I see a potential for future cooperation contingent on the necessity to distinguish between the level of high politics and low politics. On the high politics level, the loose structure is an added value of the Weimar Triangle as it bears enough flexibility for crisis management. On the lower politics level, a more structured cooperation might be the key for improved trilateral cooperation. In both cases, the personal commitment of the individual actors participating in the Weimar Triangle cooperation is crucial for its success.
