Tematem rozważań niniejszej pracy są relację zachodzące pomiędzy nacjonalizmem, a religią na podstawie historii ruchu narodowego w Irlandii w minionym stuleciu. Ma ona za zadanie ukazać zjawisko nacjonalizmu katolickiego w jego specyficznej formie, jaką przybrał on w czasie kształtowania się irlandzkiego ruchu republikańskiego. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów.Pierwszy rozdział poświęcony jest zjawiskom nacjonalizmu i terroryzmu, ukazuje genezę obu pojęć, a także spory o ich rozumienie w świecie naukowym. Poruszany jest w nim także temat relacji pomiędzy nacjonalizmem, a religią.Drugi rozdział skupia się na sferze politycznej ruchu narodowego, najważniejszych wydarzeniach, które uformowały scenę polityczną w Irlandii. Przedstawione jest w nim także stopniowe stapianie się idei nacjonalistycznych z katolicyzmem. Ostatni rozdział przedstawia historię działań Irlandzkiej Armii Republikańskiej. Analizie został poddany stosunek hierarchii Kościoła katolickiego do stosowania przemocy w trakcie trwania konfliktu pomiędzy Irlandią, a Wielką Brytanią.

The subject of this work concerns a relationship between nationalism and religion on the basis of the history of the national movement in Ireland in the past century. It is intended to show the phenomenon of Catholic nationalism in its specific form, which emerged during the formation of the Irish republican movement. The work consists of three chapters. The first chapter is devoted to the phenomena of nationalism and terrorism. It reveals origins of the two concepts, as well as disputes related to their understanding of the scientific world. The relations between nationalism and religion are also discussed. The second chapter focuses on the political realities of the national movement and major events that formed the political scene in Ireland. The gradual fusing of the nationalist ideas and Catholicism are shown. The last chapter shows the history of warfare of the Irish Republican Army. The attitude of Catholic Church authorities towards the use of violence in the Ireland - Great Britain conflict has been analysed.
