Titanium and its alloys are widely used in aerospace, chemical industries or military. However, those materials have found particular use in medicine, where they are used for the manufacture of surgical instruments and implants. Implants have to be characterized by a high biocompatibility. Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy has been investigated as a potential material used in implantology. During the anodization conducted in an ethylene glycol electrolyte containing fluoride ions (0.38 wt%) and water (1.79 wt%) at a constant cell potential of 40 V and a temperature of 20 °C the arrays of nanoporous oxide structures on surface Ti-13Nb-13Zr alloy have been obtained. The effect of anodization time on the formation of nanostructures have been also studied by carrying out the anodic oxidation in the interval 1 - 6 h. Structures formed for times longer than 2 h were irregular and contained a layer of phase α and β phases. Also examined an effect of the surface of the samples before the anodization on the structure after the anodization. It has been found that this effect is significant. The nanostructures, which have been obtained, have been self-organized and there have been no morphological differences between phase α and β phase.
