Zestawione powieści, mimo iż są dziełem twórców należących do różnych pokoleń, odmiennych społeczeństw, wykazują liczne powiązania co do opisywanych treści i podobnych prognoz dotyczących przyszłości istnienia i funkcjonowania gatunku ludzkiego. Kluczowym elementem różniącym obu pisarzy jest stopień pesymizmu, z jakim ukazane zostają możliwe do zaistnienia problemy w zetknięciu z gnostycznym ideałem nowej formy istnienia – formy transcendentalnej. W ogólnym ujęciu tematu, zgodnie uznawana przez pisarzy jest niemożność uniknięcia formy infu egzystencjalnego, dlatego też wynikiem ich przemyśleń są coraz to doskonalsze kreacje przyszłych bytów, jak i nowo powstałe problemy związane z próbą określenia granic człowieczeństwa w zetknięciu z ogromnymi możliwościami dowolnej modyfikacji organizmu ludzkiego, w celach udoskonalania i przekształcania zmysłów naturalnych, w byty cyfrowe. Jacek Dukaj bardziej skupia się na elementach składowych w budowaniu alternatywnej, cyfrowej rzeczywistości, pozostawiając psychologizm jednostki na dalszym planie, jako element mniej istotny, aczkolwiek w jakimś stopniu obecny. Greg Egan stara się przedstawić problem przyszłych transcendentalnych możliwości istnienia, w oparciu o wewnętrzne przeżycia konkretnych ludzi. Takie ujęcie aspektu psychologicznego, jest niewątpliwie bliższe nam współczesnym, dlatego też w powieściach Egana mniejszy nacisk został położony na ulogicznienie systemów technologicznych i wszelkiego rodzaju gadżetów cyfrowych. Bardziej interesujący jest element przystosowawczy człowieka do nowej rzeczywistości. Wynikiem jego rozważań są pewne wątpliwości, co do gotowości człowieka na przyjęcie (od zawsze tak upragnionego) gnostycznego świata wyższego rzędu. W szaleńczym pędzie za postępem nauki, człowiek zapomina, że jest tylko systemem organicznym, nie mającym żadnych bezpośrednich powiązań z infosferą.
