Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza oraz ukazanie istoty procesu zarządzania przekształceniami terenów pokolejowych w Krakowie na przykładzie przekształcenia Dworca Kolejowego (Kraków-Centrum).W pracy zaprezentowano zagadnienia teoretyczne z zakresu tematyki terenów poprzemysłowych i pokolejowych w Polsce. Opisano aspekt prawny tych terenów i scharakteryzowano proces jego zarządzania. Przedstawiono zarys historyczny powstania i rozwoju terenów klejowych w Krakowie przełomu XIX i XX wieku, okresu między pierwszą, a drugą wojną światową, aż do czasów współczesnych. Zaprezentowano również zagadnienia z tematyki terenów pokolejowych w Polsce i na świecie. Z jednej strony opisano dworce kolejowe – czas ich świetności i upadku, a z drugiej strony transport kolejowy w przeszłości i przyszłości.Dla ukazania istoty procesu zarządzania terenem pokolejowym przedstawiono przekształcenie Dworca Kolejowego w Krakowie, w tym jego historię. Zaprezentowano również plany i projekty miasta Krakowa dotyczące przyszłych przekształceń obszarów pokolejowych.Na terenie pokolejowym w Krakowie centrum zbudowano inwestycję o nazwie „Galeria Krakowska”. Skupiała się ona na budowie obiektów handlowych, usługowych i biurowych, a także na przebudowie płyty parkingu, który był nad dworcem kolejowym, łącznie z budową rampy najazdowej, drogi. Dworzec, wraz z infrastrukturą, stał się nowym węzłem komunikacyjnym łączącym tramwaj, parkingi, przystanki autobusowe, a nawet port lotniczy pod Krakowem. Proces zarządzania przekształceniem Dworca Kolejowego w Krakowie nie należał do łatwych i zapewne nie rozwiązał wszystkich problemów komunikacyjnych miasta. Centrum miasta zyskało nowy wygląd, blask, nowy Dworzec Kolejowy, łącznie z przejściem podziemnym na Rynek Główny.

The objective of this paper is to analyze as well as present the essence of the process of managing former railway grounds in Krakow exemplified by the transformation of the Central Railway Station.This paper presents theoretical issues in the field of postindustrial and former railway grounds in Poland. Their legal aspect is described and the process of managing them is characterized. A historical outline of the formation and development of railway grounds in Krakow at the turn of the nineteenth century, in the period between the First and Second World War up to this day is presented. Issues in the field of former railway grounds in Poland and across the world is also presented. On one hand, the time of the grandness and downfall of railway stations is described; on the other hand – railway transport in the past and the future.In order to show the essence of the process of managing former railway grounds, the transformation of the Railway Station in Krakow, including its history, is presented. Plans and designs for the City of Krakow concerning future transformations of former railway grounds are presented, too.An investment named “Galeria Krakowska” was built on former railway grounds in the centre of Krakow. The main aspects were the construction of some trade, service and office objects as well as the redevelopment of the car park site located above the railway station combined with the construction of an access ramp and a road. The station, with its infrastructure, has become a new transport junction connecting tramlines, car parks, bus stops and even an airport near Krakow.The process of managing the transformation of the Railway Station in Krakow was not easy and probably did not solve all the urban problems related to transport. The city centre acquired new appearance, chic and a new railway station together with an underpass leading towards the Main Market Square.
