StreszczenieZwiązek między płcią tłumacza a samym tłumaczeniem zdaje się być kwestią kontrowersyjną nawet współcześnie – bywa omawiany w publikacjach naukowych, jednak wciąż rzadko pojawia się w kontekście językoznawczym czy translatologicznym. Biorąc pod uwagę fakt, że tłumacz, w odróżnieniu od maszyny, jest jednostką zwróconą w stronę nieustannego rozwoju, który bywa umożliwiany, kontrolowany i poddawany zmianom przez uczestnictwo w sytuacjach społecznych, psychologicznych i językowych, można wysnuć wniosek, że wszystkie te sytuacje mają wpływ na językową płeć tłumacza, która będzie się objawiała, w mniejszy lub większy sposób, w tłumaczonych przez niego tekstach. Niniejsza praca przedstawia, między innymi, wcześniejsze badania w temacie płci i tłumaczenia, na marginesie pozostawiając kwestie feministyczne jako nieadekwatne w rozważaniach pozbawionych stereotypowych przekonań i zamierzeń. W celu przedstawienia związku między płcią tłumacza, a wybieranymi strategiami i technikami tłumaczeniowymi, grupie studentów studiów tłumaczeniowych zaproponowano uczestnictwo w badaniu przeprowadzonym na potrzeby niniejszej pracy. Eksperyment opierał się na tłumaczeniu fragmentów literatury z przedstawieniem własnych komentarzy do wykonanego tłumaczenia. Wyniki eksperymentu mogą stanowić interesujący materiał do dalszych rozważań, jak również punkt wyjścia do ewentualnej krytyki założeń niniejszej pracy.

AbstractThe connection between sex of translator and translation appears to be quite controversial even as of today; it is brought up in scientific publications, however it barely occurs in the linguistic or translation context. Taking into consideration the fact that the translator, as opposed to machine, is in the continuous process of development limited, enabled and altered by surrounding social, psychological and linguistic factors, it appears to be possible that all these factors have an impact on his or her ‘gender language’ which might be further manifested, consciously or unconsciously, in their translations of the given source texts. The current thesis presents, inter alias, the previous studies on the issue of gender and translation, without an insight into feminist approach as leaving out all possible bias and stereotypical beliefs was the main concern of this work. In order to investigate the connection between the sex of the translator and translation techniques and strategies employed in the process of rendering, an experiment, inviting several students of translation, was conducted for the purposes of the current thesis. Students were asked to render the excerpts taken from literary texts and additionally annotate their translations in order to make the process of decision making more explicit. The results of this experiment may be an interesting starting point for further discussion on the issue as well as for possible criticism of the approach presented in the current thesis.
