Summary Introduction: Each medical condition influences patients’ lives and evokes negative emotions. Patients are accompanied by various feelings and emotional states. Among many negative ones, anxiety, anger and depression can be enumerated and are connected with illnesses accompanied by sense of threat. Objectives of the thesis: evaluation of the level of emotion control and stress handling mechanisms in patients with cardiac pacemaker implantation. Material and methodology: The subjects were patients with implanted cardiac pacemaker (n=102), divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 49 patients hospitalised for cardiac pacemaker implantation, who stayed in hospital for 3 days. The second group consisted of 53 patients with implantation from 6 months to two years before. The research was conducted with the use of CESC questionnaire for testing emotion control, MINI-COPE questionnaire for testing mechanisms of handling stress and a survey of one’s own work. Results: general level of emotion control reached the average level in 55 tested subjects, the low level in 26 subjects and high level in 21 subjects. In specific subscales high level of impeding emotions concerned anxiety in 48% of subjects, depression in 37.3% of subjects and anger in merely 2.9% subjects . The high level of handling stress was demonstrated by 40.2% of subjects tested for active handling stress and helplessness, whereas the high level of evasive behaviour concerned 44.1% of subjects.Findings: patients with implanted cardiac pacemaker demonstrate the average level of controlling negative emotions. In the test groups, socio-demographic factors influence controlling emotions and ways of handling stress. Factors influencing the emotion control were: age, place of residence, marital status, professional activeness, whereas gender, educational background and disease entity were not significant. The mechanisms of handling stress depended on age, gender, educational background, lapse since the implantation, marital status and did not depend on the place of residence and professional activeness. |

StreszczenieWstęp: Każdy proces chorobowy wpływa na życie chorego i wywołuje negatywne emocje. Osobom chorym towarzyszą bardzo różne uczucia i stany emocjonalne. Spośród wielu negatywnych emocji występuje lęk, gniew, depresja, są związane z wystąpieniem choroby, której towarzyszy poczucie zagrożenia.Cel pracy: ocena poziomu kontroli emocji i mechanizmów radzenia sobie ze stresem wśród chorych po implantacji stymulatora serca.Materiał i metodyka: Badaniami objęto pacjentów z wszczepionym stymulatorem serca (n=102), podzielonych na dwie grupy. Pierwszą grupę stanowiło 49 chorych, którzy byli hospitalizowani z powodu implantacji stymulatora i przebywali w oddziale 3 dni. |
