Feuilletons, letters, obituaries and posthumous reminiscences as well as texts of speeches delivered on various occasions by the poet himself make up the contents of Tadeusz Różewicz: Margines, ale…, a volume of miscellanea edited by Jan Stolarczyk. They can be regarded as a storeroom of diverse autobiographical material complementing Różewicz’s main work. In fact, this traditional approach seems in this case fully vindicated. The collected occasional texts do reflect some of the poet’s persistent traits, preoccupations, or beliefs; they also enable us to get a better understanding of the broader communicative contexts and functional significance of his poetic strategies, preferences and autocreations. In the title of the collection the appended "but…", an opening word with three dots, is an invitation to look for more, some kind of complement. Our reading should clarify the outcome. The 'margins' may turn out to be something of a Derridean supplement, ie. not just an annex (an extension on the side, adding something of lesser importance that cannot change or influence
our perception of the main work) but a complement that does have a part in the character
and essential quality of the writer’s work even if it seems unimportant, secondary, almost superfluous.
