, Zabawa Krystyna. - Kraków : Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego, 2019. - S. 203-223. - (Żywioły wyobraźni). - Strona wydawcy: https://www.wuj.plThe article evokes a turn towards the plant world and the contemporary fashion for
“plant” children’s books. It portrays the writers’ fascination with botany as well as
with the symbolism connected with plants and fl owers, and an appreciation for fantasy and magic characters (fairies, elves etc.), characteristic of the end of the nineteenth
and the beginning of the twentieth century. In Europe this period of time saw the
publication of numerous illustrated books and picturebooks for young readers. In
those books plant and fl ower fi gures dominated in iconographic and textual layers.
A crucial point for the author of this article is to defi ne the status of the characters
(fairies, elves, dwarves, children), among whom the precedence is given to personifi -
cations of species of plants (including fl owers, fruits, and vegetables), which resemble
human children. They create the category of The Child of Mother Earth.. - ISBN 978-83-233-4528-2
