Celem artykułu jest zrekonstruowanie poglądów na temat pojęcia formy organicznej w estetyce dekoracji oraz jej zastosowania w ornamencie. Autor odwołuje się do wybranych teoretyków sztuki, którzy podjęli to zagadnienie, priorytetowo traktując myśl Karola Homolacsa. Zarówno Gottfried Semper, jak i Owen Jones czy Homolacs dostrzegają pewne kontrowersje w związku z kopiowaniem form naturalnych w sztuce dekoracyjnej. Homolacs bada szczegółowo problem kopiowania form naturalnych nie tylko w sztuce ornamentalnej, ale również w sztuce obrazowej. Ponadto konstruuje interesujący opis formy organicznej, odnajdując w niej analogie do formy artystycznej. Wszelka forma występująca w naturze oraz forma artystyczna jest według Homolcsa rezultatem działania na nią dwóch przeciwstawnych sił - różnicujących oraz krystalizujących. Konkluzja dostarcza odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy i w jaki sposób uprawnione jest inspirowanie się tworami przyrody w twórczości artystycznej. Okazuje się, że poglądy Sempera, Jonesa oraz Homolacsa są w dużym stopniu zbieżne.

The aim of this paper is to consider views on the concept of the organic form in the philosophy of design and its application in ornamentation. The author refers to some design theorists; especially to theories of Karol Homolacs. Gottfried Semper, Owen Jones and Homolacs perceive controversy in the copying of natural forms in decorative art. Homolacs considers both the problems of copying natural forms in decorative art and in painting. Additionally, Homolacs created a theory of the organic form which is similar to the form in art. According to Homolacs all the forms - organic forms and forms in art - result in their shape from the action of two opposing forces: those which differentiate and those which crystallize. The conclusion is an attempt to answer the question of whether art can be inspired by natural objects and in which way this should be done. The views of Gottfried Semper, Owen Jones and Karol Homolacs are similar.
