Pop-up books from Polish publishing houses

This article has two purposes: the first one is to characterize the genre of pop-up book, and the second one is to show the range of pop-up books available in the Polish book market. The author depicts the history of pop-up books as well as the definitions of such works. The second part of the article contains both the quantitative and the qualitative (including readers' reviews) analyses of the assortment of pop-up books offered by Polish publishers, based on the research conducted by the author. The information about the publishers and the profiles of the authors and illustrators of pop-up books are introduced. The research states that although the pop-ups are a small part of the books issued each year by the publishers, the assortment is diverse, comprising worth reading examples. This article is the first one investigating pop-up books in the Polish book market.
