Jak dowodzi autor, dominującym uczuciem, z jakim przychodzi mierzyć się bohaterom dzieł autorki Pawia królowej, jest wstręt. Analizując losy Silnego - głównego bohatera Wojny polsko-ruskiej pod flagą biało-czerwoną, autor szczegółowo bada mechanizmy powstawania reakcji wstrętu, wskazując jako główne jego źródło narcyzm bohatera. Debiutancka powieść Masłowskiej, poddana w artykule wnikliwej analizie, staje się punktem wyjścia do wykazania związku wstrętu z melancholią uniemożliwiającą rozwój polskiej tożsamości narodowej.

Wróblewski examines the mechanisms of how the reaction of discust comes about in Masłowska’s description of Silny [or Nails in Benjamin Paloff’s English translation], the protagonist of her debut novel Snow White and Russian Red. He concludes that the main source of the characters discust is his narcissism. Snow White and Russian Red becomes a point of departure for Wróblewski to point out the relationship between disgust and melancholy, which thwarts the development of Polish national identity.
