Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest próba opisu kształtowania się tzw. podzielonej tożsamości kulturowej w środowisku wykształconych krakowian wywodzących się ze wsi i nie odcinających się od swych wiejskich korzeni. Definiuję ją jako identyfikację jednostki z dwoma różnymi obszarami języka i kultury na skutek zmiany stałego miejsca zamieszkania. Po latach spędzonych w mieście i kryzysie tożsamości ludowej krakowianie o chłopskim rodowodzie stopniowo zaczynają dostrzegać wartość swego pochodzenia, mimo że bardziej już utożsamiają się z miejskim typem kultury. "Podzielona tożsamość" "nowej" inteligencji krakowskiej to zatem poczucie związku z dwiema kulturami: nabytą - inteligencką, ogólnopolską oraz rodzimą - ludową.

The subject of this article is the attempt to describe the way so-called divided cultural identity was shaped among educated Cracow inhabitants who originate from villages and do not repudiate their rural roots. I define the identity as a person’s identification with two different areas of language and culture, resulting from changing the place of permanent residence. After years of living in the city and the crisis of rural identity, Cracow inhabitants of rural origin start to appreciate the value of their roots although they already identify themselves more with the culture of the city. Thus, "divided identity" of the "new" Cracow intelligentsia is the sense of belonging to two cultures: the acquired one - all-Polish, characteristic of intelligentsia, and the native one - rural.
