My Opole region : on the social climate of the Opole Silesia region

W artykule tym wykorzystuję pojęcie klimatu społecznego do analizy relacji międzyludzkich w obrębie wspólnoty regionalnej mieszkańców Opolszczyzny. Mieszkańcami Opolszczyzny reprezentują różne typy poczucia przynależności. Jedni przedstawiają się jako Ślązacy, odżegnując się od polskości, niemieckości lub czeskości. Inni czują się zarazem Ślązakami i Polakami. Jeszcze inni czują się jednocześnie Ślązakami i Niemcami. Wielu czuje się albo Polakami, albo Niemcami, i nie przyznają się do śląskości. Spotkałem nawet takich mieszkańców, którzy przedstawiają się jako polskojęzyczni Niemcy, chociaż nie znają języka niemieckiego. Owe samoidentyfikacje mieszkańców Opolszczyzny są czymś więcej niż definicjami samych siebie. Wskazują na istnienie szczególnego rodzaju interakcji oraz nacechowanych emocjonalnie więzi społecznych z innymi mieszkańcami regionu. Wspólnota regionalna Opolszczyzny dzięki tym samoidentyfikacjom może być ujmowana jako bogata sieć tożsamości społecznych Problem polega na tym, jaki klimat społeczny panuje na granicach między tymi tożsamościami. Na postawie analizy relacji pomiędzy społecznościami Opolszczyzny mam prawo sądzić, że wszystkie te tożsamości owocują na stykach między sobą pozytywnym klimatem społecznym, który pozwala im trwać obok siebie w ramach jednej wspólnoty regionalnej. Śląsk Opolski - to szczególny pozytywny klimat regionalny, który stanowi o wspólnocie jego mieszkańców.

In this paper I apply the notion of “social climate” to analyze interpersonal relations of members of community of Opole region. Inhabitants of Opole region represent many types of sense of belonging. Some introduce themselves as Silesians, distancing himself from Polish, German or Czech nationality. Others feel Silesians and Poles at the same time. Still others feel Silesians and Germans at the same time. Many inhabitants feel either Poles or Germans, and they do not admit to the Silesians ethnicity. I met even inhabitants who presented themselves as Polish-speaking German people although they did not speak German language. These self-identifications of the inhabitants of the Opole region are something more than the ethnic definitions of themselves. They indicate the existence of a specific type of interaction and social ties amid residents of the region. Due to the self-identifications community of Opole region can be recognized as a rich network of social identities which create the social environment of the region. The problem is one of the social climate that prevails at the borders between these identities. On the basis of analysis of the relationship between inhabitants of Opole region I can state that all these identities result in a positive social climate that emerges in borderlands between them. I treat this special positive regional climate - which contributes to creation of the regional community of inhabitants - as the crucial virtue of Opole Silesia region.
