Imperializm pruski i angielski w idealistycznej optyce Gilberta K. Chestertona

article
The article describes and analyses Gilbert Keith Chesterton's approach to imperialism from the moral point of view. Imperialism in this paper refers to an aspect of European politics in 18th, 19th and 20th century; Chesterton especially refers to political expansion of Prussia and England throughout history as he finds striking similarity in foreign policy of these countries. This similarity has occurred due to the Prussian influence in England since 16th century, as it provoked imperial tendencies in a formerly peaceful, Christian country. As a consequence, Ireland was the one who had to suffer English aggression. The same was to happen in Poland in the XVIII century, as it was conquered and divided by the inspiration of Prussian king Frederic II. Chesterton regards these imperial tendencies as pure barbarism. He seeks its roots with German Teutons, who invaded the ancient Roman Empire. He suggests that modern Prussia adapted the same policy as those uncivilized tribes. In his view, Prussia denounced Christian moral values in international politics, becoming an oppressor in Europe. Chesterton criticizes its politics, as he fights for preserving the Christian legacy in European countries. In fact, he declares that the only way to maintain friendly and peaceful international relations is sticking to Christian values in all aspects of life, including politics and international relations.pl
