Na przestrzeni minionych dwudziestu lat Barbara Sass poświęciła aż dwa filmy egzystencji zakonnic w klasztornych murach. Choć Pokuszenie i W imieniu diabła rozgrywają się w różnych okresach historycznych (pierwszy w okresie stalinowskim, drugi we współczesnej Polsce), to w obu obrazach odnajdziemy podobne wątki i motywy, np. wpływ stanu konsekrowanego na tożsamość kobiecą i jej gender. W artykule podejmuję próbę analizy komparatystycznej wspomnianych utworów z naciskiem na postaci protagonistek. Dokonując porównania obu filmów, wskazuję na powtarzające się motywy, takie jak opresyjny charakter życia klasztornego, kwestia posługi kobiet w ramach instytucji Kościoła katolickiego, jak też wątek seksualności zakonnic, który reżyserka, jakby na przekór dominującemu dyskursowi odsyłającemu to zagadnienie w niebyt, stara się w swoich utworach zaakcentować, przekraczając tym samym społeczne i kulturowe tabu.

Over the past twenty-five years, Barbara Sass has directed two movies about life of nuns and their existence within monasteries. Although Temptation and In the Name of Devil take place in different historical periods (the former during the Stalinist period and the latter in contemporary Poland), the director finds similar themes and strands in both, for instance, the influence of consecrated life on female identity and gender. The main purpose of my article is to attempt to carry out a comparative analysis of these movies with particular emphasis on the female protagonists. In comparing both, I would like to identify recurring themes, such as the oppressive nature of life within a monastery, the role of women in the Catholic Church as an institution, as well as the sexuality of nuns. Due to emphasizing these controversial themes by Barbara Sass in opposition to mainstream discourse, she is able to confront social and cultural taboos.
