Rome and Italy in Ovid's "Tristia" book 1

Tematem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza odniesień do Rzymu i Italii w I księdze Tristia rzymskiego poety Owidiusza (43 r. p.n.e.-17 r. n.e.). W całej przedwygnańczej twórczości tego "poety Miasta" odgrywały one ważną rolę. Zamierzeniem autora jest zbadanie, czy zmieniło się to wraz z relegacją Owidiusza do nadczarnomorskiego Tomis. I księga Tristia powstała na przełomie 8 i 9 roku n.e., w drodze do miejsca wygnania, gdy pamięć o stolicy imperium była ciągle jeszcze w poecie bardzo silna.

In this paper the author analyses references to Rome and Italy in Tristia Book 1, an elegiac composition of the Roman poet Ovid (43 BC-17 AD). In the whole pre-exile literary oeuvre of this Poet of the City these references played an important part. The goal of this paper is to study if it changes with the Ovid's relegation to Pontic Tomis. Tristia Book 1 was written in 8/9 AD when the poet was still travelling to the place of his exile and when the memory of Rome in him was still very strong.
