Evolutionary inspirations in aesthetics and their consequences

Głównym celem artykułu jest próba przyjrzenia się nurtom w estetyce inspirowanym ewolucją Darwinowską, takim jak estetyka ewolucyjna (reprezentowana przez Denisa Duttona), estetyka pragmatyczna (reprezentowana przez Johna Deweya) i posthumanizm w estetyce (reprezentowany między innymi przez Monikę Bakkę i Wolfganga Welscha). Autorka stawia pytanie, czy da się wypracować jedną spójną estetykę ewolucyjną, obejmującą wspomniane nurty. Ich analiza przebiega na polach problemowych, takich jak natura - kultura, człowiek i sztuka. Odpowiedź na postawione pytanie badawcze może być tylko jedna: nie jest możliwe wypracowanie spójnej estetyki ewolucyjnej, ponieważ badane tendencje, mimo że posiłkują się teorią ewolucji, prezentują różne paradygmaty w podejściu do rozumienia podmiotu, natury i estetyki jako takiej.

The main purpose of the text is to explore the three trends in aesthetics inspired by Darwinian thinking: evolutionary aesthetics (represented by Denis Dutton), pragmatist aesthetics (represented by John Dewey) and posthumanism in aesthetics (represented by a number of scholars - including Monika Bakke and Wolfgang Welsch). The author tries to answer the question if one could possibly formulate a single evolutionary aesthetics sensu stricto, encompassing all the three trends pointed out above. Those three perspectives are analyzed in the fields as follow: the nature-culture opposition, and the relation between a human being and art. The answer to the main question must be negative as there is no possibility of describing one comprehensive evolutionary aesthetics.
