Some reflections on the state of dialects in south-eastern Poland

This article presents the state of preservation of dialects in south-eastern Poland and the author also predicts the future of dialects. Two opposite tendencies were pointed out here which allow to foresee it: displacement of the dialects by the standard Polishand fashion for folk (both are partialy consequences of globalization processes). The role of sociolinguistic parameters determining the varying degree of dialects preservation was discussed (age, education, sex, work environment and communication situation). As essential issues there were also considered the assessment of dialect by its users and by the users of standard general Polish as well as the nature of neighbourly relations in the countryside.
