Od końca lat 80. XX w. na wyspie Lesbos rozwija się turystyka masowa. Wiąże się z nią rozwój lokalnej infrastruktury turystycznej. Jednak ruch turystyczny i dochody z turystyki - w porównaniu z Grecją kontynentalną czy innymi wyspami - są mniejsze. Cel pracy stanowi przedstawienie najważniejszych walorów turystycznych wyspy Lesbos, a zarazem polityki władz całego regionu Wysp Egejskich Północnych, które wspomagają dalszy rozwój tej dziedziny gospodarki na wyspie. Na konkretnych przykładach przedstawiono inwestycje propagujące rozwój turystyki, szczególnie te wykonane w oparciu o dotacje z Unii Europejskiej.

Mass tourism has been developed on Lesbos island since the late 80. of XX century. The development of local tourist infrastructure is connected with this development. However, tourist movement and tourist revenue were smaller on the island than compared to other parts of continental Greece and other Greek islands. The objective of this study is to present the most important tourist values of Lesbos, and also the policy which is run by local government of entire North Aegean Islands region which support further development of this area of economy. The investments to boost the tourism growth were presented on specific examples, especially those which were made in connection with of European Union programmes.
