Dopełnienia domyślne a elipsa frazy werbalnej : analiza składniowa kontekstów konfirmatywnych w ujęciu minimalistycznym
This paper discusses the syntax of a subset of null object data from Polish. The data include answers to polar questions, verbal responses to commands, confrming and negating assertions, and polarity contrast. These contexts always make it possible for the object to be dropped, even though the grammar of Polish rigidly constrains the availability of null objects in other structures. The analysis is conducted within the minimalist approach to the study of natural language syntax. It is suggested that null objects in the contexts discussed should not be analysed as null pronominals or elided noun phrases but rather result from verb phrase ellipsis, preceded by the movement of the verb to the Σ head, introducing the polarity feature into the derivation. The research reported here suggests that null object constructions in Polish may be derived via the application of different mechanisms.
