Abstract in English
The paper deals with the word maidan in the modern Ukrainian city discourse. Changing of its meaning are analyzed in different periods of time. Special attention is paid to the history of nomination of the main Kyiv square - the Independence Square. After Orange Revolution (2004) and especially after Euromaidan (2013-2014) it is called just Maidan in different languages. In modern Ukrainian language word maidan became synonym for revolution, protest movement.
