Article presents critical analysis of John (Jack) Goody’s works recently published in Poland: Capitalism and Modernity: The Great Debate and The Theft of History. Goody’s approach, according to which civilizational domination of the West over the rest of the world dates from the beginning of the 19th century, while capitalism, individualism as well as democracy existed earlier in Asia and Africa is false. It results from a specific definition of these terms and selective approach of his opponents arguments. In reality, the author omits the facts, which do not fit his theory providing us with ideology, not scholarly work.
