Arabskie rewolucje z lat 2011-2012 w powieściopisarstwie arabskim
This paper analyses several novels devoted to the revolutions of Arab Spring in Egypt, Libya, Syria and other Middle Eastern countries in the years 2011-2012. Arab novelists reacted quickly to the very important event, which was the emergence of the Arab Spring. During the first two years of its duration a large number of works was published. Because of this rush, the level of narrative techniques in a lot of these novels was low and unconvincing. Some of them were presented superficially and dominated by enthusiasm of their authors. The most important novels that dealt with the Arab Spring were written by Egyptian novelists, such as: Hišām al-Ḫašin, Hišām ‘Alwān, Muḥammad Ǧarrāḥ, Šarīf Malīka, Rabāb Kassāb, Amīra aš-Širbīnī and ‘Izz ad-Dīn Šukrī Fašīr. ‘Adnān Farzāt from Syria wrote two novels about the Syrian Revolu-tion. It is worth mentioning that some writers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya, Sudan and Mauritania, such as: Nūr ‘Abd al-Maǧīd, Ṭayba aš-Šarīf al-Idrīsī, Aḥmad ‘Abd al-Malik, Ibrahīm al-Kawnī, Mu‘taṣim aš-Šā‘ir and Aḥmad Fāl Wild ad-Dīn, were also interested in Arab Spring revolutions. The Arab novelists portrayed the injustice and cruelty of dictators ruling their countries with an iron hand, pointing to the need for change. They raised various topics focused on the enthusiasm of people from different segments and social classes fighting against dictatorship and corruption. The characters of their narratives represent different social types: young people, students, intellectuals and ordinary people – rich and poor. The Arab writers showed that the revolutions of Arab Spring united Arab communities and reinforced cohesion between Christians and Muslims.
