Like in the High Tatras, a well-developed set of glacial and periglacial landforms marks successive stages of Late Würmian deglaciation in the Polish and Slovak part of the Western Tatra Mountains. The most extensive glacial deposits in the Western Tatras are most probably associated with the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, 26-21 ka). The Western Tatras morphology shows also three sets of glacial/periglacial landform systems (LG-1, LG-2 and LG-3). The LG-2 morphosystem indicates an outstanding re-advance and subsequent glacial suboscillations, marked by well-defined, massive boulder-rich outer moraines. The youngest LG-3 system represented by periglacial deposits (rock glaciers) is indicative of entirely periglacial conditions and is the most recent cold-stage landform assemblage in the Western Tatras’ relief.
